To Philip Haynes
The start of a new season is exciting, and the start of this season despite the result against Swansea shows so much promise.
Many fans have their say, me included. Most of us don't know an awful lot about football, me included.
We come on Fan Talk, or have our views in the local press and forums and banter goes this way and that, some of which can be heated and some light hearted.
Most of all we're a family club, in a moderately sized city where pretty much everyone knows everyone.
So I want to praise you, for emphasing through your fathers life and passing, that sometimes there are things that are more important than football, yet at the same time you are happy that your dad saw us get back into the championship.
Your dad is now upstairs, and while you can go to all the home games and as many away games as you want and watch pretty Forest football played on the grass.
I think you can rest assured knowing that your dad will for the first time be watching the football in the clouds, and cheering on Clough and Taylor in their own little part of footballing heaven.

Be Good (sorry I pinched that from BC)

David

Just like to say Colin Peatman us armchair supporters don't go to every game as we live out side England but I do go with my son two time's a year if we can get . We always bay the team strip every year for the two kids and I and other things from the club shop on line so you see we do put money in to the club like you . It's nice to here what you have to say but we all love forest as much as you do .Hope you have good times at the games . When my son and I come over to see forest well meet up and you will see how much my wee boy loves forest . to all the fans out there hope we will have good times and heads up things are looking good now .

So, we have yet another injury in the attacking department in Mcgugan.
When is the club going to see we are desperate for another striker until some of these injured players comeback?
Earnshaw cannot carry on by himself, because his confidence is going to plummet unless he's got someone along side him to take some of the pressure off him.
It's all very well getting Lee Martin in (who looks a great player by the way) but he isn't a striker and isn't going to be the player to hold the ball up for Earnie to help him score.

I am beginning to believe that either A) our training facilities or B) our training schedule/load is injuring our players! I have never known so many kepy players to be out for such a long time together. It is getting ridiculous. At this rate we will have a lighter suad than we did last season, and we didn't exactly set Leage 1 alight did we to be truthful!
I hope all the squad get fit and soon otherwise we will be in a relegation battle by the end of the year!
I wish we had signed Kevin Phillips though now!!

I would like to know what is going on with transfers at Forest.
We have either sold, given away or returned around 10 players before the start of this season.
2 of the players we had on load at the club last season were injured before we even got to use them. Konstantopoulos and Hoskins.
Then this season we get 2 on loan players and 4 signed players and 3 of those are injured along with players from the original team.
Every other team is making moves to enhance their squad. Look at Derby. They have signed around 17+ players and still looking.
OK. I guess CC does not want to move the team too much and so it does not need that long to gel, but come on CC.
Is it not time you realise the players we had, no matter how much they want to, are never going to be good enough for this league.
While every other team is snapping up transfers, you are doing nothing to strengthen the squad in regards to defense and strikers.
Our defense on Saturday was poor and there was only poor Earnie up front. We are not going to have Martins forever, then what???
The defense is going to get over ran every game. The reading game was nearly that as there were times we crumbled and Reading walked through like nobody was there.

Once again we are being linked with ben watson. I think he'd be a great addition to the team he has everything forest need. Hard work great ball player. Big advantage that he will link up with earnshaw.
I'm a season ticket holder and have been impressed with the summer signings. i think we've deserved at least 4 pts. colin and managment have done a great job and i think we can expect a good position in the league. Not sure about the signing garner, think money could have been spent better but colin knows what hes doing.
Come on u reds, lets get the seaons rocking with a win against watford and the signing of ben watson.
P.s: another could signing would be Cameron Jerome hes wasted at Birmingham.

Craig Evans

First of all i would just like to say well done to the team and managment for working hard pre season.
We look a far better team than we did last season. I have full faith in CC i think he can motivate the team and also he gets shuck in with them which means a lot to the player. Looking at the start of the season against reading played well unluck not to take 3 points morecambe unluck not to win buy more swansea played ok we were alot closer to them than last year and it is differcult playing against 12 men.
I do feel RE needs more support up front and i would like to have a update on the injury front. Also i would like to see more of our young players i thought MT played very well at the end of last season.
All the best for the rest of the season i've got my money on a playoff place

In the early hours of July 22nd my father,Doug Haynes, sadly passed away at the City Hospital Nottingham just weeks short of his 86th birthday. He started supporting the Reds way back in 1931 as a young boy and attended his last game just before Christmas 2004 when his mobility gradually let him down. But he always listened on local radio to the clubs fortunes and I would text him as I travelled to matches home and away.

I am so glad that he lived long enough to see us promoted back to the Championship. From me and anyone else out there who knew him RIP Dad.

Philip.

Not sure what is going on with some of the posts on Fan Talk? I find it amazing that people are already jumping on the negativity bandwagon and dismissing our chances as a Championship outfit.
If we cast our minds back to previous seasons, we were drawing at home to Bournemouth, losing to Accrington Stanley (who are they??) in the Carling Cup and struggling to overcome much smaller clubs in League 1. Now we have drawn at home to a relegated Prem side (which we dominated), hammered Morecambe in the Carling Cup, and been relatively unlucky with Smithy/ penalty decisions but certainly not outclassed in our latest defeat. BUT, WE ARE LOOKING MUCH BETTER THAN LAST SEASON, which in my mind is progress.
Anybody having illusions about back to back promotions are probably a little too optimistic, but I for one am convinced this squad is the best we have had in years, football against Reading was very good, and some great signings made for this season. The fact that Premier League squad players are opting to come to us on loan ahead of our competition is not purely down to cash, they clearly believe they can be part of a successful team.
I do worry about certain elements of the team (players out of position, defence a little nervous) and I think CC can rectify this, it would be good to see another defender at the club with some pace and a footballing brain, and on the injury front, we need to get these players back if we are to give ourselves a fighting chance of a good position. Aside from these minor points, let's get off the team's back and show our new players that they were right to come to the club.

I cannot belive after 1 defeat away from home we have the negative vibes back again from some of the emails on fantalk.
We are going to lose a lot heavier than that this season ,it as to be expected we are a young improving club it will take a lot of time and money to get us back into the top flight.
If everyone in nottingham and the surrounding areas got off their bums and came to the city ground every other saturday maybe we will be able to improve faster with all the extra cash from a 25000+ crowd.
Look at Derby yes we all hate them but on paper they are a much bigger club than us , they hammer us on home support they spend more than us on players and their ground is far more up to date than ours,
Compair nottingham to Derby ....derby is a sh.t hole ,so how can they fill their ground with more support than us????
20000 home fans to me is rubbish so before everybody stars wanting CC out and moaning about everything that goes wrong get off your bums and get to nottingham every home match and lets get behind our team win lose or draw ,
Look at teams like Newcastle , sunderland , liverpool , man utd , you never hear their fans moaning and groaning thay all get behind their team.
This is how it is the order of merit for the midlands
1.. Aston villa 2. Birmingham 3. West brom 4. Derby 5. Forest
all based on attendance of home games.
Us as a club need to up our support to our team
so if your mate is in the pub with his new forest shirt on ask him why he does not go to the games?? any excuses

Now I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I have to pick up on two points raised in earlier posts:
1. 'Worried Reading' - CC did indicate that we would get someone in on loan last weekend - Lee Martin arrived before the Morecambe game ?
2. 'Nick from Lincolnshire' - your comment that 'the defence, just like last year let us down' is just so wrong. That defence kept a record 25 clean sheets last season, I do not think anyone would say that was letting anyone down?
Please let's not get all negative after what is (I believe) our first league defeat since Doncaster away last season. This league is a massive step up from where we have been for the last 3 years and it is only the first full week of the season, so stay positive and get behind the team on Saturday

Paul

I can't understand how the fans on here can go from being very positive, talking about what a good buy Earnshaw has been, the solid defence and possible top 6 aspirations to 7 days later talking about relegation, Earnshaw being a poor acquisition and the leaky defence!!
I was not at the Swansea game as I live in Manchester, but did listen to it online. Before this game I did have this one down as a loss and when we equalized I thought it could be a great result if we held on which we obviously did not.
We are not going to beat everyone! We need to be realistic that most teams are going to beat us when we go away and some teams are going to beat us home. Play off positions would be amazing, top half/mid table respectful and anything above relegation satisfactory. If we do get promoted, we would definitely come straight down again with the possibility of breaking every Premiership record in terms of lack of points, goals conceded etc. It is just too soon for that.
This is a very tough league where everyone can beat each other……….Doncaster away to Derby is a good example of this. We need to settle down, find 'our game/system' and get used it and trust it. There will be 'easy' games which we will lose and 'tough' games which we will win, but it is down to us to ensure there are more of the latter than the former.
I agree that Earnshaw needs help up there!! He is a small light guy who will get eaten alive by the taller and larger defenders. Clearly he is a confidence striker who needs to get on a good run. He will not score more than 1 headed goal this year and needs service to feet and I think we have the midfield to deliver that!!
We do have a tough run now for the next 3 or 4 games and if we're not on form these games could easily be 4 defeats, but if we do the right things and get the confidence back up, we could get 8 or more points!!!
Going this Saturday and cannot wait as it is my first game this season!! Friend's wedding prevented me for the first game, but at least I got to watch it on Sky.
All the best for this season!!! Let's get behind the lads everyone and be realistic!!!

There was something I noticed last season. It worked right through the Cloughie era and even did last season.
Before the Doncaster game Calderwood had nothing but excuses and tried to better the way Forest had played with words.
After the Doncaster game in which we lost 1 - 0 and quite honestly it was awful. CC ripped out on the whole game and for the first time in the season he became critical of everything and everyone.
It was nothing overboard, unlike the tactics that Paul Jewell is using at the enemy. However, it was honest.
We then went on to win against Carlisle 2 - 0 and get promotion.
So maybe, it would be better to be more honest and critical over the players actions and give them all something to play for.
Throw some of the young players in and let the others fight for the places.
I think they all need bringing down a peg or 2 as they seem to think that it does not matter how they play as they are in the Championship.
Look at Chambers last season, he scored goals, he was getting forward and he looked good. Since he signed the new deal, well he is nothing short of poor on the ball, no where to be seem up front and just wrong.
From what I have seen and heard, the formation and tactics are only letting players run at us and not letting us get forward enough. Something has to change in the formation and tactics on performance.
Letting dangerous players run at us like the game at Swansea was wrong. Kelvin Wilson was left with his head spinning and it just fell apart. It too Moussi and Martins to come back and defend. That is why Earnie did not have any support, they were all back doing the defenders jobs.
Look at Chelsea, you do not see Deco coming back to do Terrys job. Change it CC before it is too late.

Nick from Lincolnshire

We played ok in parts but am worried about support for Earnshaw he cannot do it all on his own, Martin is better with a floating role and is certainly a good aquisition to the team and must be worth considering signing on permanantly if Man Utd are prepared to let him go.
Also does anyone know how long Cole, Anderson, Davies and Tyson are likely to be out because if its for up to a month to 6 weeks ( We know Garner wont be back till end of October at the earliest )then he has got to use Sinclair and Newbold to support Earnshaw or get a quality Premiership striker in on loan or we are going to lose confidence and get left in the lower regions of the league which is not good for anyone as a decent start is a must.
I am sure CC is considering this and I hope we can come out against Watford with spirit and fight and get 3 pts on the board or some of the ( Boo Boys ) will get restless I hope we get behind the lads as from what I have seen they are giving their all and we cannot ask for more. Next Sat we all need to get a great atmosphere going and make the City Ground a place for clubs to fear, me and the Old Timer from Worksop will be doing just that from the Lower Clough Stand with the odd Kinnel as well but not too many I hope !!!!!!

Mick Wagstaff ( Young Timer ) Worksop

CC has said in a the NEP that he is happy with his defence. I hope after watching us at Swansea he realises that you cannot play a central defender in the right-back position in the Championship and get away with it. It's not Chambers fault but he isn't good enough at this level. Bennett was also found out a few times against Swansea.
And what on earth is happening about the striker situation? Last weekend CC indicated we were getting someone in on loan this week, but that didn't happen. If Earnie is left to carry on as he is for much longer, we will be propping up the league for the forseeable!

Can anyone tell me where the team went that played against Reading??
They did not turn up against Swansea
The defense, just like last season let us down, they should have bought some defenders as Wilson left on his behind showed just how good we were. Then again the strikers did not do much for us either.
It took James Perch to score.
Was Earnshaw a good buy after all, 2 goals at County and 2 goals at Morecambe. Would he be better used in League 2, I wonder
Also what is it with Forest and Injuries, it happens EVERY season. Have Forest learnt nothing about preventing this.
I know it is early but this is not looking good.

Nick From Lincolnshire

Re Swansea away....we'll simply have to improve.
To all the fans getting a little carried away with talk of playoffs etc, this should have brought them back down to earth. As I said last week, top half of the table will certainly do for me. However if we cant get a result at Swansea, then even 4th bottom seems a long way off.
Not good enough today Forest. It's going to be a long season. We need fit strikers and from todays evidence we need more defenders!!
