The Reds won 1-0 thanks to Adlene Guedioura, who marked his return when he rounded off an excellent break involving Andy Reid and Simon Cox.
O’Driscoll said: “It’s a beginning. People say ‘this is a good start’, but a start is ten games. You always want to get three points. It was a good beginning; it was always going to be tight. It was a typical opening day of the season – hot – I thought both sets of players dealt with the conditions.
“We were organised, something we’ve tried to instil in everybody during pre-season. We were organised against Fleetwood and got a result, we were again today. We’ve got enough talented players to give us a chance and if you can back that up with being hard to beat then you’re standing in good stead.
“I think we can be better. There’s no point in trying to play pretty football if you’re not organised. We’ve got to find our own way of doing that.
“We’re still trying to get all our talented players on to the pitch, which will allow us to play more football- but we have to do that on a solid base.”
