Goals from Mauro Boselli, Maynor Figueroa, Jordi Gomez and Callum McManaman ensured The Latics’ passage in to round three. Simon Cox scored The Reds’ consolation with a tremendous turn-and-hit from 30 yards.
O’Driscoll said: “I think we can take positives from the whole game. I thought we started really brightly but they’ve got a lot of quality.
“Wigan’s is a difficult system to play against. I felt for the lads at times, we worked hard but sometimes you can work too hard and, when you do get the ball, you need to take a breather and that’s the wrong time to do it. It was difficult for us.

We’re trying to be level-headed about everything. We’re not getting carried away with some of the things people have been saying about us and we’re not going to get carried away with getting beaten by an excellent Wigan team.
“I said to the boys afterwards: ‘That’s where we want to be. That’s the type of football we want to play.’ But it’ll take some time, we understand that. We’ll have to work at it day in, day out.”
