The striker has joined The Reds on loan from Southampton for the remainder of the season and could make his debut against Charlton at The City Ground tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).
The move sees Sharp reunited with O’Driscoll, who was his manager at Doncaster during the most prolific spell of his career so far.
And The Reds boss is delighted to be renewing acquaintances with the free-scoring front-man after a whirlwind few hours.
“I wasn’t aware that Billy may be available until late-on today,” he exclusively told www.nottinghamforest.co.uk.
“A loan suits all parties – we’ve managed to secure him on a season-long loan so from a financial point of view we haven’t had to find a massive transfer fee.
“He wants to play football – his dream was to play in the Premier League but it looks like that wasn’t going to happen and he didn’t want to sit on his backside.
“He wants to play and score goals. He’s always enjoyed playing at The City Ground and will be a great addition to the overall strength of the squad.
“We happened to take him to Doncaster at the right time, he was eager to prove he score goals in the Championship and we felt he could.
“He was the icing on the cake for us and you can’t have too many people in the team or squad who can score goals.
“And with Dexter Blackstock, Simon Cox and Billy we’ve got people who can get double figures in this division and if you are going to be successful that’s one of the criteria that you need to fulfil.”
Tickets for tomorrow’s game are available in person from the Forest Ticket Office; on-line at www.nffcretail.com or by calling 0871 226 1980 (calls charged at 10p per minute, mobile rates may vary).
