The defender, who is likely to play at right back during his spell at The City Ground, has joined two days before The Reds’ opening Championship fixture at home to Bristol City.
“We were trying to get it done earlier this week because I wanted to get a full weeks’ training in before the game.” he said.
“But I’m just glad to be up here and I can’t wait to get started.
“Obviously there’s a little bit of apprehension. I’ve been at Chelsea since I was seven but I think it’s the right step for me at the moment, I want to go and play games and prove myself.
“It’s a great club to come to with a massive history and hopefully we’ll do well this season. I can’t wait.”
Hutchinson follows in the footsteps of his Chelsea teammate Ryan Bertrand, who was on loan at Forest during the 2010-11 season before going on to pick up an FA Cup and Champions League winner’s medal last term.
Hutchinson said: “Ryan and I are very close- we spend every day together!
“He obviously bigged the club up, he says it’s a fantastic group of lads and that the fans are great. Hopefully I can settle in and play well.”
